FAQ
About teaching and the YAMAHA method
1
At what age can children start lessons at YAMAHA MUSIC SCHOOL?
arrow_forward_ios
Children can start learning music in our programs from 4 months of age. The ROBÁTKA program is designed for this age and develops musical perception in a playful and gentle way.
Most children begin their musical journey with the PRVNÍ KRŮČKY K HUDBĚ program, which is designed for children from 1.5 to 4 years old.
2
How do the lessons work and what do children do during them?
arrow_forward_ios
Lessons are designed as play-based activities. Children listen to music, sing, move and play simple rhythmic instruments. Each activity is adapted to their age and natural development.
We apply the same approach in our instrumental programs. Thanks to our sophisticated methodology and additional materials, learning an instrument is guided through play and home practice becomes fun!
3
What is the difference between YAMAHA MUSIC SCHOOL and a regular music course?
arrow_forward_ios
YAMAHA MUSIC SCHOOL is a well-developed international concept with more than 50 years of tradition. The programs are methodically designed to respect the child's development and to build musical skills in a natural way – through listening, imitation and active experience.
4
What if a child doesn't have an "ear for music" – does it still make sense to enroll them?
arrow_forward_ios
Yes. Most children have natural musical potential – it develops gradually when given the right environment. Our goal is not to look for talent, but to awaken a love of music and develop each child at their own pace.
5
How long does the program last?
arrow_forward_ios
Each program usually lasts one school year. It is followed by the next level according to the child’s age and progress. This means the learning can continue smoothly for several years.
6
Can we start during the school year?
arrow_forward_ios
For the preschool programs ROBÁTKA and PRVNÍ KRŮČKY K HUDBĚ, you can join at any time during the school year (if there is an available place in the course). If the course is fully booked, let us know and we will add you to the waiting list – as soon as a place becomes available, we will contact you.
For follow-up courses, it is best to join at the beginning of the school year in September, or at another time by agreement with us. Contact us and we will help you find the right place!
Children and parents in the course
1
Does a child have to be able to speak or count to start?
arrow_forward_ios
No. The programs are tailored to what children can manage at their age. We do not require any prior knowledge – the teaching is based on what comes naturally to children: listening, play, movement and imitation.
2
As a parent, can I attend the lesson with my child?
arrow_forward_ios
Yes – in our preschool programs, the parent is a natural part of the lesson. Together with your child, you sing, play and discover music. You learn together, strengthen your bond and support your child’s desire to explore music.
Parental presence is also welcome and highly recommended in instrumental programs. Especially for younger children, it helps create a safe environment and encourages active participation.
3
What if my child is very temperamental or feels nervous about lessons at first?
arrow_forward_ios
That is absolutely fine – every child is different and reacts in their own way. Temperamental children often bring wonderful energy to the lessons, and the playful style suits them well. If a child is shy at first or needs more time to adjust, we let them observe calmly and join in at their own pace. Thanks to the presence of a parent and a safe atmosphere, most children find their place very quickly.
Organization and practical questions
1
How often do lessons take place and how long do they last?
arrow_forward_ios
Courses take place once a week and last 45–60 minutes, depending on the course. The exact lesson length can always be found in the description of the specific program. Both the length and frequency are adapted to children’s ability to concentrate and absorb new stimuli.
In our programs, we guarantee a minimum of 16 lessons per semester (32 lessons per year).
2
How long does the first semester last and when does the second semester begin?
arrow_forward_ios
The start and end of courses vary, so it is always necessary to check this information with the course provider in your city.
3
How many children are in the group?
arrow_forward_ios
In the preschool programs ROBÁTKA and PRVNÍ KRŮČKY K HUDBĚ, groups usually have 6–10 children (the maximum number of children per lesson is 12). This number allows for a friendly environment while still providing an individual approach.
In instrumental programs, the number of children in the group depends on the specific program. The maximum capacity is always stated in the description of the particular program.
4
What if a child gets sick or misses a lesson?
arrow_forward_ios
In most cases, we allow clients to make up a missed lesson in another group. The possibility of make-up lessons depends on the specific course provider in your city, so this should always be discussed with them.
In the case of a long-term absence (at least 4 consecutive lessons), we allow part of the tuition fee to be transferred to the next semester. This should always be discussed with the course provider in your city.
5
Can we try the lesson first?
arrow_forward_ios
Yes! A trial lesson is a great opportunity to experience the course firsthand – you can get to know the environment, the teacher and how your child responds during the lesson. If you decide not to join the course afterward, we will refund 100% of your payment. Some providers, on the other hand, do not charge for a trial lesson at all – you only pay if you decide to continue.
6
Does the child have to practice at home?
arrow_forward_ios
For young children, practice at home does not take the form of traditional practice. If you sing together, play a recording from the course or dance together, that is already a great form of home practice.
In instrumental programs, regular practice at home is important, but thanks to our well-designed videos and fun activities, parents naturally become involved – learning turns into a pleasant family ritual.
Teaching team and facilities
1
Who is teaching? What qualifications does the teacher have?
arrow_forward_ios

2
Are the courses suitable for children with special needs?
arrow_forward_ios
It depends on the child’s specific needs. We will be happy to discuss everything with you individually and consider the possibilities of participation – some children with special needs feel very comfortable in our courses.
